Green Day - “Oh Love - Otis Big Guitar Mix” (2020 Reprise Records)
w Billie Joe Armstrong, Tré Cool, Mike Dirnt; from Otis Big Guitar Mix
I actually came across this very shortly after the last Green Day post, and in the intervening months I've listened to it enough times to get sick of it and then right back into it again. What a guitar solo...and the rest is quite good too (nice falsetto on the bridge; "talk myself out of falling...in love").
Otis Big Guitar Mix was apparently a surprise EP, featuring remixes of "Oh Love" and two other songs from Green Day's ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, ¡Tré! trilogy of about a decade past. These mixes nominally emphasize the guitars, but on "Oh Love" at least you can also hear the harmony vocals a lot better and everything's just generally clearer (although the drums could get out of the way a little) compared to the original:
And I understand Otis is the name of the band's home studio...
As usual for Green Day the lyrics are pseudo-deep, but everything about "Oh Love" is so earnest it's hard to notice. And what a guitar solo...this is a hell of a record...
